Dating At Home

Updated: May 13, 2021

Dating to find love can be tedious and tiring, but once you find your someone, dates with them can be some of the best memories you’ll make.

That being said, there are more than just romantic dates, there are:

family dates

friend dates

dog dates

The goal is to spend time with the people you love.

It can seem overwhelming to have to set up for a date night because we want it to be perfect, there’s not enough time, or you don’t want to spend the money.

I can tell you that I don’t feel stressed about home date nights because of these steps I take.

It doesn’t have to be perfect or elaborate - just taking the time to change things up is enough to create a special night.

4 Step Date Night:

1. GET ALL (OR MOST) THE CHORES DONE BEFOREHAND

I like to get all the chores done in the beginning of the week or day before the date night. If I don’t have a lot of time, I try to do at least the bare minimum of cleaning so that my mind is free when it’s time for our date.

Chores I do before date night:

- most of the dishes

- morning coffee scheduled to brew

- lunches partly ready to go for the next day

This helps me to be more present during our date because I don’t think “man I have to get the coffee ready, and there’s still dishes to be done”.

Instead we can both focus on each other and relax knowing we can just head to bed after the movie - no cleaning necessary.

It adds so much to the date if you’re intentional about chores & other duties beforehand.

Free up your mind, your date is worth it.

Bonus tip: HAVE PAPER PLATES ON HAND

2. PICK SOMETHING YOU BOTH LIKE

Pick an activity or movie that you both like. We love board games, shows, and movies. Our date nights are typically movie nights, more specifically movies that neither of us have seen. It makes it more interesting and exciting for both of us when neither of us have a clue what’s going to happen in the movie.

3. YUMMY FOOD

Have great food! Either make a quick/easy meal that you both love, or order something quick.

It’s a good night when neither of us have to cook dinner, but it’s an even better night when we get to order out.

It doesn’t have to be an expensive take out, maybe you have a Dominos free pizza coupon & you can treat yourself to the cinnamon twists as a dessert, or maybe it’s as simple as getting Chick Fil A sandwiches and splitting a milkshake.

Whatever cuisine will help make this night extra special, be sure to get it because it’s not every day you get to have these dates.

4. COMFY SPACE

We set up blankets and pillows on the floor in front of the tv so that we can be extra comfortable.

It takes an extra 5 minutes to make the usual space a little different so that it’s something new for a change.

I try to make it so it’s an easy clean up afterward, just picking up some pillows and folding some blankets super fast.

HOME DATING RECAP:

  • Have chores / morning set up done

  • New movie for both of us

  • Special take out / dessert or drinks

  • Comfy Space / blankets & pillows

Home dating is fun and definitely worth the little bit of extra effort that it takes.

Plan a date with your friends, significant other, or family members (or pets) and I promise you’ll have a blast.

Xoxo,

Allison
